Our collection of
basidiomycetes is the only integral collection of hymenomycetes in
this country, the treasury of some preserved and rare species, the
protector of patented strains. It is a basis for screening of strains
possessing important metabolic activities. The Culture Collection of
Basidiomycetes (CCBAS) is a member of the Federation of Czechoslovak
Culture Collections and the World Federation of Culture Collections
and it is listed under the number 558 in the World Center for Culture
Collections of Microorganisms. The collection was founded in the
Institute of Microbiology of the Czech Academy of Sciences in 1959 and
now belongs to the Laboratory of Environmental Microbiology (head Dr.
Petr Baldrian, PhD). Most of the cultures belong to orders Agaricales,
Aphyllophorales and Gasterales. Our strains are preserved by safe
current methods and stored under liquid nitrogen. Our mycelial
cultures are used for research purposes with regard to their
physiology and biochemical activities. They also serve as comparative
material for different studies by research workers from other
institutes in the Czech Republic as well as in other countries. The
cultures listed in the catalogue are available for research work,
mostly on the basis of exchange. Detailed information can be obtained
from the contact person. A specific method of cryopreservation of
basidiomycete species can be developed and tested for the customer,
the cost depending on the complexity of problem solution.
An electronic version
of the catalogue is presented here in the form of a file in XLSX
format for MS Excel - AGstrains.XLSX (CR = Czech Republic).
